KCMA encourages our members to reach out to their representatives in Congress to offer plant tours. With the upcoming August work period/recess and another extended recess in the run up to the November election, now is the perfect time to connect with your Congressional delegation members.

Why is this important?

  • It is always preferable that when an industry needs congressional intervention that their Members of Congress are familiar with their specific issues. It is tough to educate a Congressional delegation when time is of the essence.
  • KCMA's ongoing investment in fair trade requires a significant grass root advocacy effort. Having a personal connection to your Congressional Delegation ensures your voice is heard.
  • In addition to our trade case, there are several legislative efforts that KCMA is partnering with other organizations on. These tours provide an opportunity to keep those issues top-of-mind.
  • Having personal contacts in Congress can help KCMA gain access to departments and agencies within government. As an example, last year Stephen and Paul Wellborn were able to work with Congressman Aderholt to arrange a meeting for KCMA with the Department of Commerce - something KCMA had been struggling to do on its own.
  • Congressional members correlate tours with votes. The more people they can touch, the more votes they get!

KCMA has put together a couple of resources to assist you. If you need further assistance or have any questions, please contact KCMA CEO Betsy Natz at bnatz@kcma.org
